What is the difference between a battery storage system and a grid-connected power system?

We are often asked this question in our surveys by our customers, so let us briefly explain the differences between the two systems.
The biggest difference between the two solar power systems is how the energy generated is stored.

The advantage is that we can store this energy locally so we are not dependent on the power company’s grid, the disadvantage is that the storage capacity of the batteries is limited and the batteries themselves have storage losses and the life of the batteries is relatively short, typically 4-5 years .
Battery storage systems are most commonly used in agriculture, mountainous areas, oceans, deserts, and other areas that are far from grid coverage and need to provide power for farm irrigation, fishing, vacation home lighting, heating, communications, field monitors, etc. From a utility point of view, the establishment of these stand-alone solar battery systems is also necessary.


The second type is the network backup, grid-connected power system:

you need an inverter that converts the DC voltage energy generated by the solar energy into AC voltage to provide us with power, you need a special meter – to measure and record in both directions the amount of power generated and the amount of power consumed , so that we can provide power for our own home. If we have extra energy, it will be sent to the grid and we will get it back when we need it.
Of course, the amount of power generated may be much more than we use. In this case, the electricity supplier will buy the excess power from us, converting it into numbers that are recorded in the meter. Solar panels have a life span of 30 years, and it generally takes 5-6 years to recoup the cost of the investment in installing a solar panel power system, which makes it worth the investment! You have to realize that this is a very good deal because it is much cheaper than buying the same amount of energy from the power company as a consumer!
